Grace Plaza Redesign

Midtown’s iconic Grace Plaza is one of the largest privately-owned public spaces (POPS) in New York City. Built in 1969, the 20,000 square foot POPS generated an as-of-right floor area bonus for the Grace building. The new design of the POPS reconfigured the plaza into four quadrants separated by two sets of parallel pathways, redistributing seating opportunities and increasing the amount of planting throughout. These pathways would be divided down the center by planter beds and bench seating and outlined by additional seating and plantings.

The proposed design change brought the POPS into greater compliance with the design regulations in the Zoning Resolution.
