Parklet Program - Newark, NJ
Parklets are mini-parks placed within parking spaces to create more open space. In 2016, I helped launch Downtown Newark’s first parklet program, designing, overseeing construction, permitting, and placing parklets throughout the downtown. After designing the parklets in SketchUp, I worked with local contractors to construct them, and partnered with local businesses and the Division of Traffic & Signals to place them on the roadbed.
For one parklet, I partnered with the Great Oaks Charter School where I gave a class on urban design, followed by a design competition where students created different seating arrangements using a modular parklet with geometric shapes that I designed. The winning design was installed outside of the school.
